The Register reports about the congress The World Summit on the Information Society in Geneva hosted by the Government of Switzerland from 10 to 12 December 2003.
There are only about 14 million lines installed in the entire Africa, fewer than the number of phone lines in Manhattan, and almost all are in urban areas and if northern Africa and South Africa are not counted, there are only 3 million lines to be shared among the remaining 600 million people.
